Many would say that fashion is an expression of the culture and soul, hence every nation has a unique reflection of its own history as well as traditions in one way or another.

Japanese fashion is no exception to this sentiment. This article will go into a few details of how it has changed throughout the years while always remaining intact in its traditions.

The Past and the Present

One of the most traditional and common Japanese fashion outfits is the Kimono; it is still worn today in more modern designs, it was also embraced by the Western nations because of its sensuality as well as elegance.

Throughout the years Japanese fashion saw very few changes but throughout the years the Kimono was a dominant part of the classic collection and consistently a part of their lives in one form or another. Another kind of Kimono is the Furisode which is worn by young women in their twenties; in Japan the age to legally drink and smoke is twenty and in order to celebrate the parent frequently offer their daughters a Furisode.

Then the Houmongi takes the stage. This is another kind of Kimono that is worn by married women and similar to the Furisode the parents will give their daughter one when she is married.

The formal Kimono is known as Tomesode and is typically worn by married women to social functions such as marriages. Additional variations include the Mofuku which is the funeral Kimono for Japanese fashion and the Uchikake is the wedding Kimono.

Last but certainly not least the Obi is the oldest form of the Japanese fashion as they are no longer in production today and rarely will you find someone wearing this type even in Japan.

Modern Japanese fashion generally has several categories in addition to some that are not related to clothes. The Japanese fashion known as the Kogal is translated in Japan to people who enjoy displaying their higher income by wearing expensive jewelry or clothes.

The Gangoro Japanese fashion is designed for those people who began changing their hair color and then you have the Lolita as the Gothic Lolita Japanese fashion, which is being represented by the innocent and sweet dressed (Lolita) all the way to the other extreme type referred to as punk fashion, which is known as Gothic Lolitas.

The Eternal Fashion

The world of classic fashion is eternal throughout the world and Japanese fashion has their Kimonos to prove it. The use of colors also plays a large part in the world of Japanese fashion as well as their culture as it is directly correlated to the event. Fashion not only reflects and defines an era and a place in time but also the character and personality of the person who is wearing it.

This dog sports a very Oriental expression, and it’s no wonder they are called Japanese Chins! According to the American Kennel Club, these regal, dignified dogs have a bright, inquisitive, alert and intelligent expression. They look very Oriental, because of their broad heads and short muzzles, feathered ears, and large, wide-set eyes.

When it comes to their attitude, the Japanese Chin is considered one of the most cat-like among the dog breeds. They even wash their faces and wipe themselves with their paws like cats! They like resting on sofa arms or chairs, and can walk across a table without disturbing a thing on it.

This dainty, stylish dog’s roots go back to the royal courts of Japanese and Chinese aristocracy. It is apparent in the way it sometimes lifts its nose in the air in a distinctly regal fashion! Their silky, long coats carry a heavy ruff in the chest area and bunch up at the rear, with their tails having profuse feathering, making them look as though they are wearing royal coats.

Japanese Chins can come in a range of colors. They can be black and white, red and white (with the shading running from lemon, sable and mahogany), or come in tri-color. That means they can also come in black and white with tan points or patches on the body, face and over the eyes.

These animals are sensitive, good natured creatures. They reflect the environment around them, so if you live a solitary life, they will tend to be quiet and reserved. If your home is always full of people and you have an outgoing personality, chances are they will emulate that as well.

They love climbing things, another cat-like habit. Sometimes, they sneeze and snort and cough up the occasional hairball just like their feline counterparts! It doesnt mean that they are distress when they sneeze, though”this is due to the broad structure of their heads and faces.

It would be a good idea to socialize your Japanese Chin at an early stage, because this will cause them to be more well-balanced emotionally. Even though they like familiar surroundings best, these dignified creatures are able to adapt well to change and have even been used as therapy dogs! They are people-lovers, and may bark at the arrival of a visitor or the occurrence of something unusual, but they are otherwise very quiet.

Japanese Chins can be quite the entertainers, especially when they perform the Chin Spin! They are normally calm creatures, but you cant help but be enchanted when they start to spin around in rapid circles, dancing up on their hind legs, raising their front paws in a clapping motion, and even singing! This sound can range from a low noise to a high, operatic warble that sounds almost like, boooo!

Traditional Japanese kimono gets remixed with kawaii, cyber, goth, and other subcultures on the streets of Tokyo.

Kimono – which Japanese people have been wearing for over one thousand years – are Japan’s most iconic fashion item. Japanese people still wear kimono on special occasions and holidays, but traditional kimono (except for summer yukata) are worn less now than they were several generations ago.

In Japan today, other types of fashion may have replaced kimono as daily wear, but creative young Japanese people are finding ways to incorporate elements of the kimono into modern street styles.

From gothic kimono to cyber/rave style, to kimono mixed with super kawaii accessories, to the adoption of the kimono by many in Japan’s shironuri (white makeup) subculture, kimono remains a strong influence in the modern Japanese fashion scene.

We love kimono and we wanted to share fifteen of the amazing kimono-inspired styles that we have seen on the streets of Harajuku over the last few years.

Please enjoy these looks and let us know what you think of young people taking elements of kimono and remixing it with their own unique styles.

Starting things on time is a habit passed from generation to generation. Being punctual can be said to be the trademark of Japanese people as they have been raised to be so.

The way you dress is also important to impress a Japanese date. As seen on television, Japanese people have a very astonishing yet unique clothing fashion. Some men can dress like women wearing long jackets that can look like skirts yet they look very distinguished and very fashionable. Dress to impress but do not overdo it. Exaggeration is another thing. As the culture of clothing design in Japan has recently coming to unparalleled heights, there is always the median eye of the common person to judge whether the clothing combination you have is in or out.

Work reputation is also valued by the Japanese. Since the establishment of Japan in history, they have excelled in almost every industry making them an icon for perseverance, professionalism and success. If you really want one Japanese girl, make sure that you have a good title and a good working background because this will be totally checked by her. After all, an industrious man is always preferred by girls of every race because it ensures security and wealth.

Knowing the language of Japan can also make a kick on a date. The Japanese culture is valued by every Japanese man because they are raised as nationalist; they are proud of their country the way they love it in the way they can. The lady might adore you for learning her language way before you met her.
